The University of Maryland has had one of the nation's best programs for the past few years. Last night I attended my second game of the season, and it was a lot of fun.

The Terps easily beat their chief Big Ten rival, Ohio State, before an enthusiastic crowd.

Temperatures up and down

Friday, we saw daytime temperatures in the 60's. Since the pond was still frozen from the frigid weather last week, the temperature difference between the warm air and the frozen water created a couple of hours of fog:

With afternoon's temperatures were back in the 20's, ice once again formed on Paint Branch Creek:

Geese adjust to extreme cold

 

The end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 brought frigid temperatures to much of the country, and our area was not excluded. I'm unsure whether it was the high winds and the accompanying water movement that kept part of pond from freezing or the intentional activity of the geese who prefer open water. Whatever the cause, hundreds of geese collect there.
